Doctor David Skaggs received his Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience form Amherst College and his Medical Degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and remained at Columbia University for his orthopedic residency. He completed one fellowship in pediatric orthopedics and spinal deformity at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, and a second in orthopedic basic science research at Columbia University.
Dr. Skaggs has authored more than 90 peer-reviewed research studies. His textbooks are used to teach surgeons in training at many of the country's top medical schools. Books include "Staying Out of Trouble with your Pediatric Patients" and "Masters Techniques in Orthopaedic Surgery: Pediatric Orthopaedics." He currently serves as an Editor for Rockwood and Wilkins' "Fractures in Children." Dr. Skaggs' research includes seminal publications about pediatric spine disorders and trauma.
He has served in many leadership roles in national and international professional societies and is recognized by numerous societies including selection as an American-British-Canadian traveling fellow, Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (POSNA) traveling fellow, and the inaugural POSNA Young Investigator Award.
Dr. Skaggs currently is an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery with Tenure at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine and Vice Chair of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. Skaggs is a nationally recognized expert in pediatric spinal deformity and is a frequent visiting professor and lecturer on this topic. Dr. Skaggs currently holds the Endowed Chair of Pediatric Spinal Disorders at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
Among Dr. Skaggs' many interests, which includes rock climbing and yoga, he enjoys spending time with his three children and wife.
